About Us
WBC exists to glorify God through the teaching of the Bible and discipling people of all ages to fulfill their purpose in Christ.
Our Story
Waxahachie Bible Church was launched in 1981 as a church plant from Midlothian Bible Church. A group of believers desired to see a ministry established in Waxahachie that would faithfully and effectively teach God’s Word from a non-denominational perspective. The original motto of the church reflected this focus: “Teaching the Word!”
Soon after its formation, the church purchased its first property at 1420 W. Ross and launched the AWANA ministry for children. Dickie Dixon served as the first full-time pastor, faithfully leading the church for thirteen months during its foundational season.
In June of 1985, Pastor Bruce Zimmerman was called to serve as the full-time pastor. Under his leadership, the church experienced both spiritual and numerical growth that would shape its identity for decades to come. During this time, the church’s motto was updated to “Committed to Christlikeness,” reflecting a deepened emphasis on discipleship. While the teaching of God’s Word remained central, the desire was not simply to impart knowledge, but to see lives transformed through the power of God as individuals grew in maturity and Christlikeness.
As the congregation continued to grow, both in depth and in number, the need for expanded space became evident. In 1993, property was purchased at 621 N. Grand Avenue, and the Ross Avenue building was sold. For two years, the church met at Marvin Elementary School while plans were developed for a new facility. In the fall of 1995, a 14,000-square-foot building was completed, providing a new home for the growing ministry. Continued growth led to an additional 28,000-square-foot expansion in the fall of 2001, which still serves the church’s ministries today. Alongside these developments, additional staff and ministry roles were established to meet the needs of the congregation.
During this season, the church’s mission was further clarified through a purpose statement built around the initials WBC:
“Welcome people into a relationship with Christ, Build them in their faith, and Change their world for the glory of God.”
This was often summarized as Welcome – Build – Change, capturing both the heart and direction of the church’s ministry—to develop disciples who actively live out and share the Gospel.
In 2009, the elders, staff, and deacons developed and presented the current mission statement to the congregation, marking another significant step in the church’s growth and clarity of purpose. This mission continues to guide the church as it seeks to:
Worship God
Become Mature Disciples
Carry Christ’s Love to the World
In 2021, Pastor Bill joined the staff of Waxahachie Bible Church, serving in congregational care and men’s ministry. In 2025, he also stepped into the role of worship pastor, further investing in the spiritual life and leadership of the church.
After more than 40 years of faithful leadership, Pastor Bruce Zimmerman retired in June of 2025. His decades of service left a lasting legacy of biblical teaching, discipleship, and steady, faithful leadership that shaped the life and direction of Waxahachie Bible Church.
Following this transition, Pastor Bill was affirmed as Lead Pastor and Lead Elder, stepping into this role with a commitment to continue the mission of the church while building on the strong foundation that had been established. Today, Waxahachie Bible Church continues to pursue its calling—rooted in God’s Word, committed to making mature disciples, and dedicated to carrying Christ’s love to the world.
Beliefs & Goals
We believe that divine-enabling gifts for service are bestowed by the Spirit upon all who are saved. While there is diversity in gifts, each believer is energized by the same Spirit, and each is called to his own divinely appointed service as God wills. These gifts are not signs of deeper spirituality. Each believer has at least one gift and it should be used to build up the body of Christ. Romans 12:6-8, I Cor. 12:4-11, I Peter 4:10-11, Eph. 4:11.
We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the only ordinances of the church and that they are for those who have accepted Christ as Savior, and that they are a scriptural means of testimony for the church of this age. Matt. 28:19, Luke 22:19-20, Acts 2:41-42, I Cor. 11:23 -26, 12:12-13.
We believe in the blessed hope and the personal and bodily return of Christ to receive believers unto himself. Titus 2:13, John 14:1- 3, I Cor. 15:51- 52, I Thess. 4:13 -18.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in glory and the everlasting punishment of the lost. Dan. 12:2, John 5:28 -29, Luke 16:19 -26, Phil. 1:23, Rev. 20:10 -15.
